A Letter To My Past Self

Dear me,

By the time you get to read this, time travel has hopefully been invented or you are reading this from a parallel  universe. Almost a year ago, I stumbled across a letter from you. You apologized for scars, damage to my organs due to pills, and broken hearts.

Man, do I have news for you! You hadn't left scars on me at that point! Just unhealthy coping methods and toxic relationships. Little did you know, 12 year old me, that it would only go down hill from that point.

So here are a few pointers if you ever get to try again:

  • When you leave him, do not go back. Never speak to him again
  • For crying out loud, don't cut yourself with that. It's probably dirty and will lead you to use sharper, more dangerous things.
  • Your body is fine the way it is. Crash diets, starving yourself, and being miserable does not get you anywhere.
  • You are going to say the next two major relationships are "the love of your life". They're not.
  • He cannot fuck your broken pieces of you back together.
  • Start getting clean now.
  • Pay attention in math.
  • Save the booze for the nights where you feel good. Vodka makes you cry when you're broken hearted.
  • When he breaks your heart, the world will go on.
  • When he asks you back out, say no. I know you still love him, but it'll hurt more.
  • Use a fucking condom.
  • Look at her. You know the one. The one who sits with you while people break you down. She's the one who builds you back up everytime. Tell her you love her. Mean it. She sees the stars in your eyes.

Best of luck,

Your Future Self
