A Letter to My Soul

Dear, soul

I wanted you to be still

I wanted you to be fine

To never need anything

I never wanted to whine

But why must you defy me?

I wanted to be calm like the leaf

To be blown in the breeze

To be beautifully complacent

Do you know what I mean?

But why must you defy me?

I wanted you to be still

To make lemonade of unripe lemons

Yet every chance you get, you just burn up again

Why must you burn for more and more?

Why must you yell at all my friends?

I just don’t really understand

What’s the point?

Why do you hate tea?

Why do you hate silence?

Why do you hate sitting?

Why do you hate riding?

Why must you keep driving?

Why must you just drive straight?

Why can’t you be quenched by what’s on your own plate?

I just want to exist.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey
