A Letter to Myself

A letter to myself,

It wasn’t too long ago you made yourself put that food back on the shelf

Saw yourself in the mirror and not recognize your own face

No trust in the future you question god’s grace

Days turn to weeks you see yourself change

Your skin becomes tighter and your bones look strange

To others, you’re pretty- looks that don’t fade

But all you see are the flaws and how you’re afraid

Afraid- of the future, the present, the past

It all haunts you like nightmares that always seem to last

The mistakes you have made- wishing you could go back

A wish to have known that fear won’t retract

Instead of admitting to needing a friend

You hold it all in and wait for the end

No one controls you but the thoughts in your mind

And I wish I could tell you mine had been more kind
