A Letter to Myself....

Dear basket case,

you don't need to explain yourself to me

because I know exactly how you feel.

Everything she said to you

you took it to heart

and you let it dance around your head

until you were too numb to think.

The paranoia was crippling.

It almost pushed you over the edge.

And it's the reason you wasted all that time

hiding from the people

who just wanted to know what was wrong.

We both know you've never really had faith

and why that word feels so weird to you now.

But you let hope slip away

and when you got up to find it

it took you further down the dark hole of your reality.

I've already spent so much time

criticizing your every move.

I'm really sorry for that.

I couldn't help but see what you saw in yourself

and I began to hate it as much as you did.

It sucks that it took this long

but you realize now that she lied about everything.

Things can get better for you

and you're capable of so much more

than what they expect from you.

As long as you remember

that you're safer than you think

you won't fall that easily again.

Make sure you hold onto the love you've been given

and keep your picture of the future close

so you'll have something to help bring you back

if/when you feel like you've lost your mind.

You can, and you will do better.

Trust me.

Sincerely, your rational self.
