A letter never written

Dear my beautiful little girl,

I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there...

I couldn’t stop the disease that destroyed me.

Cancer.

Don’t let it consume you like it did to me.

But,

How was graduation?

Your proposal?

Wedding day?

Birth of my first grandchild?

If I wrote a letter to my daughter,

I wouldn't ask her her favorite color or

what her favorite movie is…

Yet a mother should know these,

but these things change.

Like the glistening in her eyes

and the knowledge that swells her brain.

Her body will one day change into

someone I no longer know,

but I would do anything to meet .

She will change her hair

and her clothes to match her personality.

She will grow into a young women,

that I know I raised

Shaped and molded by the loved ones around her,

to help her on a path that I never could.

So, no, I won't ask her favorite color or

movie….

or what the weather was like that day.

I will ask her about the day I left

and everyday after that .

How she felt ...

How she moved on ...

And how her life continued ...

Even if I wasn't there…

Sincerely,

The daughter who wished her mom wrote to her.
