A Letter to Our Shape Shifter
Dear water,
It is you
Who has the ability to provide life,
Yet possess the power
To take it away.
You are the basis
Of all living creatures.
But, willingly,
You can thrust down,
Drowning our organs,
As they bow in your presence.
And just as the sky is wide,
You are deep.
For as mythical as shape shifters
Are said to be,
I believe you to be
A version of such.
For not the sky above my head,
Nor the ground beneath my feet
Is deprived of your existence.
Whether I traveled to the farthest ends of the earth
Or became a criminal
On the run,
I would never be able to escape you.
Your transparency is deceiving
As you are all but an open book.
Why is it that you,
So silent and majestic,
Have such a temper?
Do you rage at the way
We abuse your giving nature
With all our humanly greed,
Frivolously dismissing
Your thunderous tantrums?
Just as a child
Is to be nurtured,
You are to be cherished.
As when I look upon you,
I see myself in your refection.
It is then that I know
That you hold the faces
of every living being.
You are the connection
between us all.
You hold our very existence
In your hands.
