A Letter to a Past Reflection

A Letter to a Past Reflection

Looking back at you, I see a stranger in that mirror

A face long gone—

Lonely, but not alone.

Lost within myself and others.

Trying to find something,

Reaching out feeling only smooth walls and nothing to grasp

Drowning within the avoidance of mirrors and the escape from reality.

Not knowing who I was – feeling lost within the delusion I had created—

on a couch somewhere with someone smiling at me while I forced the corners of my mouth upwards,

toward the ceiling where I was trying to hold my gaze.

Everywhere I went I tried to find something--

A feeling of nostalgia for a memory never made.

And I wish I could have told you

Not to waste this life on people unwarranted of your time

Because this life is everything.

And you have to figure out a way to wade out of the darkness

Because there is a light somewhere

You just have to keep feeling the walls until you find the switch.

It may not be immediate—

Seeing little glimpses of light in places unexpected and faces that bring on comfort.

Bringing yourself closer and closer to that switch.

And once you find it,

Everything will change.
