Letter Poem
Dear Anxiety,
Let me let you in on a little secret.
Not only are you my oldest friend, but my closest.
Our friendship started off slowly,
in our early years you would just do things such as keep me from talking on the phone and making new friends.
I would be afraid to talk to ANYONE, but at least you were always there for me.
As I've gotten older you've always been here for me too.
When I go on dates, you're always there for me telling me how badly men can treat me and about how I should just stay home.
Whenever I want to go to parties and have fun with my friends, you're always there for me.
You always let me know of the dangers of going out with my friends,
you always let me know how much they don't really like me and about how I may get hurt.
When I try to go outside even, you're always there for me,
you always tell me how scary the world is, so I decide it's just best for me to stay home and think.
Whenever I'm alone, you're always with me too.
Whenever I try to sleep, you let me know how many things I need to get done.
Whenever I try to eat, you let me know how fat I'm getting and that no one will like me if I gain weight, so I stop being so unhealthy.
Whenever I try to watch television alone, you let me know how scary being alone is so I just go back to bed.
Whenever I try to make a new friend, you let me know that they don't really like me, so I just stop trying to make friends.
You know what anixety I know this is hard and you're always looking out for me,
but I've decided to stop talking to you.
You're super jealous and rude, and I think it's best if I try to forget you or try to look after myself better.
No more not eating
No more being afraid of everything
No more nights without sleep
and no more not having friends I love.
It'll be hard, but I think I'll be better off without you old friend.
Love,
A powerful woman, Jenna Northcutt
