Letter of Relentless Hope

Dear Friend

You are precious to me

Yet I forget it

When I cannot see past moments of frustration

Screaming you're sinking, I know

How I know

That I can’t save you

On my own

Now you dance into the light

Yet another cold front sweeps in

Overshadowing your eyes and hiding your smile behind a heavy veil

That I want to tear to shreds that will never be repaired

And I’m afraid to look into your eyes

When I do, it is all flooding remembrance

Loneliness drains all the richness of your life

What can be enough to replace it?

Until a gentle, soothing stream of sunshine arrives

It gathers force as we open like withered flowers

Once hidden in the shade, afraid to take our place

We stretch upward towards light now

Blinding in its brilliance, we're changing at the speed of light

And slowly too, because it's breaking through

Trickling into secret, empty parts

Desperately we have tried to hide

But now we want to come alive

Reviving deadened hopes and dead-end expectations

Resurrecting innocence, brutally executed in our hearts and minds

Buried long ago...only to be born again

Once again, you remember a truth so distorted

The reflection of it was invisible to you

You are a delight

And we want the same thing

Eyes to look and see

What no other eyes can see

The deep mystery of us beheld unveiled

In simplicity and wonder

In pure delight, with no lies

The One who crafted us

In perfected weakness and infinite uniqueness

Makes no mistakes

Slowly melt in the heat of a constant gaze

Don’t cast away your pearls

Never allow them to be trampled on

For you were made for greater things

Because we are more than conquerors through

Him, that loved us

Dear Friend, you are precious to more than me

You and me

We want the same thing

Love

Your Confidante
