The Letter To The Soldier

He opened the letter, the letter his wife had sent him only a few weeks ago.

When he had first opened it, it had her perfume on it.

Silly really, how he could almost still taste the fudge that had been sent along with it.

He kept rereading the last line "I love you, my dear."

He didn't have the time to write back and he knew that made her worry, but he couldn't help it.

Not with the land mine he stepped on.
