A Letter In The Wind

a grey autumn day

with a sky filled with coal.

a week or two today,

since this body,

parted with its soul.

people around this casket

wearing nothing but black.

all mourning for the deceased;

knowing she is never coming back.

as the preacher gives his words

and everyone is silent,

rain is coming towards

and the wind grows violent.

at the grave of the forsaken,

the casket is dropped into a ditch.

to heaven she is taken,

forever she will be missed.

the site of this burial,

on the mound of dirt.

is a small boy,

wiping his tears onto his shirt.

out of his pocket comes an envelope.

unopened as well as unread.

and inside this dear envelope,

are all of the words left unsaid.

he lays this so-called letter,

on the tiny gravestone plaque.

the wind and rain making it wetter,

and wetter.

the ink turning it black

the boy walks astray

the envelope just like him,

has now gone away.

sanctify your loved ones,

and the words that go with them.

for the ones that go unsaid,

are like a letter in the wind.
