Letter To You
Dear Lucas,
It's Pre-K, day one of school. Nice to meet you. Kindergarden through 8th grade has flown by. Look, we made it. We graduated. Time for high school. August is great. We have Biology together and we sit next to each other. How wonderful to get to see my best friend everyday. You talk and talk all day about how great life is, but you go home at night and cry over the phone with me. You tell me about how hard it is to lose your parents and that the people at school who keep calling you names are breaking your heart. I just tell you how much I love you and pray that that's enough. September 10th, 2012 I get to first period, Biology. My best friend seems to be running late but I hear the people behind me chattering about how you got into a fight this morning because you had enough. It's now the end of the day. I get my phone out to call you and there is no answer. I text you and wait for a reply. I didn't know then that I would never recieve one. I was walking on the sidewalk to my house at 3:43 pm when a family member drove by to give me the news that I no longer had my best friend. I dropped to my knees and let out a scream that could be heard for miles. Not you, luke. You were supposed to be there. You were supposed to stay. I ask myself everyday, even five years later, what i could have done to fix this. I couldn't have done anything. I've come to terms with that. But, everyday my heart still hearts, my memory of you still fades no matter how hard i try not to forget, and i'm still left here alone without you. I just have one question. Why?
Sincerely, your best friend,
Chasity
