Letters From Both Sides
Dear little black girl
this is your white friend
we’re like Bestfriend’s forever
or until forever ends
They hate to see us together
they hate the bond we share
do you notice when we’re out
how everybody stares ?
they say I’m getting out of control
since I started “hanging with the black girl and wearing less clothes”
but I guess that’s just how it goes
Segregation has been over for years & it feels like nobody knows....
Dear little white girl
this is your black sista
you know I got you through whatever
Bonnie & Bonnie without the pistols
see I can’t physically hold one in my hand
cause they’ll see it as a threat
in the eyes of the “white man”
you may think that I’m a fool but girl you know how I am
they think I’m cool with you for your money, that’s why I call you “fam”
like come on now, you know we better than that
been knowing you since like ‘98
and I wasn’t even born yet
