Hey mom, where’d you go?

I tried to call but you didn’t answer your phone

Dad says Heaven’s where you went,

Did you get the picture I sent?

It was of us last fall.

On my birthday, you took me to the mall.

I just turned six when that picture was taken

Dad’s making a birthday cake; right now it’s baking

It’s to celebrate when you come home.

When are you coming home?

Hey mom, we really need you.

Dad cries at night, he’s always so blue.

He cries your name, can you hear?

Maybe he thinks you’re still here.

It’s really making me worry.

If you’re coming home, can you please hurry?

It’s been three years since you left.

I still think you’re the best

I turned nine today, I made a cake.

Please come home, for heavens sake.

Listen mom, I know you’re gone,

And I’m sorry for whatever I did wrong.

Dad says your never coming back,

But I don’t like listening to that

I’m growing up, mom. Do you see?

I want to know if you still love me.

Yesterday was buy twelfth birthday,

And some of your friends came by to say “hey.”

Please let me know if you’re happy,

I’m sorry this letter was kind of sappy.

Dad went on a drinking binge again

He’s been doing that since I was ten.

I think its how he shows he misses you

I wish he could maybe find someone new.

Its not that I want a new mother

I just don’t want to see dad suffer

I turned fifteen today, I wish you were there

I made you another cake, when you come home we can share.

I’ll sit up all night until you get here,

I really mean it, I’m being sincere.

So did you ever get my invitation?

It was to my high school graduation

I bought the cap and gown myself

Dad still clears the liquor from the shelf

Do you see what you’ve done, now that you’re gone?

I get up every morning, at the crack of dawn

To study my butt off, to get good grades.

My teachers say I’ve got it made.

I turned eighteen today, I burnt the cake

It doesn’t matter anyway; you’ll just leave me to wait.

I came home from college

And found dad hanging in the closet

He had a note tapes to his shoe

He said he’s moving to heaven to be with you

Mom, why’d you have to leave?

I met a girl I really want you to meet.

I want to marry her, but there’s a fear I’ve hid,

Will she leave me, just like you did?

I turned twenty-one today, there’s a cake baking

I saved a piece for you, but nobody’s eating.
