Letters From War (Spoof)

Reading the paper,

Shaking in her hands.

Her eyes refused to look away,

No matter how much it hurt.

Only a month ago

Did her beloved leave for war

Mearly weeks after their engagement's end.

He told of his daily labors of

Diggig trenches,

Then going repeatedly,

To the land for no men.

Picking up the pen and paper,

She wrote,

While grieving inside:

<Chorus>

Keep on fighting

Don't stop trying

Never lose your hope

Keep on trying

Don't stop fighting

But please come home.

25 years later, in 1944

With signs of age starting to show.

Sitting next to her son's wife,

They read the letter,

Dated in May of that year.

"To the love my life,

To my gracous mother

I've been selected,

To ambush the shores of France,

In June, to win this war."

Remem'ring her husband,

And raising her son without him,

She wrote to her son,

With his expecting wife in mind:

<Chorus>

As the time goes by,

She picks up thr broke pieces,

Her son's child is hers for care,

Wathing him grow up,

Brings joy to her eyes.

But watcing him board the plane,

Brought back the tears

Of 2 generations past,

That she'll never forget.

Sittin' and lookin',

At the name on the wall,

Waitng for her time to be called,

She recalls their last words,

Writ on paper,

And passed down,

To each one she loved

He'd penned

"Agent Orange got more,

But it also got us.

We narrowly won,

But we still haven't fought."

Her winkled hand,

Clutched the pen,

She wrote with tears streamin' down:

<Chorus>

Please come home

Please come home
