Letting Go

Because I love you I will forfeit my words of manipulation,

I will offer support as you follow your own desires and aspirations.

Because I love you I will step off my not so noble steed,

 And accept with great humility,

And a bowed head that I was wrong.

Because "I love you one" day may be no more than than an illusion,

Words that we say out of habit,

Words hollow like balloons without any emotion to fill them up and make them float,

Words that no longer are ours to keep.

Because I care for you I will tell you when this needs to end because one day it will not be worth it:

Running yourself dry chasing the exoskeleton of our once beautiful love.

One day it will not be worth it to hold onto the fraying seams of our love for it may come to a natural end.

No amount of patches or stitches can hold together two people whose paths of life have gone astray.

Because I respect you I will tell you when our paths shall divide on this long uphill trek that we call life.

When our passions differ like the night and day.

When I begin to worry about my needs more than yours.

When I no longer need you and you no longer need me.

We will become ships who have passed each other in the night ready take on a new maiden voyage,

For you have taught me a lot about myself and life.

And forever I will hold onto those lessons.
