Letting Go of Abusive Parents

Bitch, slut, fat.

Never. Good. Enough.

Why, Father, do you always tear me down like this?

Because I love you.

The world is cruel, and you must be prepared for it.

But then, why does the world always treat me better than you?

Come and live with us then, if you are no longer safe there

My best friend’s parents,

inviting me into their family

Here is a dinner for you, for your birthday

My best friend’s dad,

Showing his love through cooking.

Don’t tear yourself down, you are beautiful and smart and loved

My best friend’s mom,

Telling me what I should have heard years ago

Stay with those who treat you well,

Leave those who don’t,

Especially if they excuse their abuse with:

“Because I love you”

For those who truly love you,

will show it.
