Liar

Say something I'm giving up on you
Say something...right.
As if I want to hear another of your sorry excuses,
Strung from your silver tongue and flung in my face.
Like a spitball, you spit your acidic myths into my ear,
Eroding my mind of any knowledge of your fraud.
Yeah, no, thank you.

And I am feeling so small
Because my wounds still haven't healed from the last time that your string of lies lassoed
my heart,
Wrenching it from my chest and discarding it in the dirt,
Like some half eaten apple you suddenly no longer wanted,
As if it weren’t something vital to me, the very structure in which my feelings are enclosed,
The place where my elation, my fondness, and my hatred are housed.

And I will stumble and fall
Still trying to cope, straining toward a recovery that I'm not sure I'll ever reach,
Because when you finally walked away you made it a point to stomp my heart deeper into
the dust,
As if the pain you’d already caused me still hadn't been enough,
I realize that back then I wasn’t all that tough,
So I have yet to forgive myself for not having the courage to tell you I had had enough.

Say something I'm giving up on you
Giving up on believing that you ever cared,
Now only questioning how you’d even dare say you love me in the midst of dozens of lies,
Cause I got left on the cold floor, swatting at flies, trying to shield the heart you exposed,
The same heart that was once protected from people like you, who would shatter it,
Leaving it in splinters, to stab me as I desperately try to piece it together again.

But I will swallow my pride
No longer demanding an apology, because as your past efforts have proven, you’ve already
supplied the best one you could muster,
And having the audacity to look down your nose at me,
You stared me in the face, penetrating your dangerous gaze into my vulnerable soul,
Testing me out again, seeing how far you could go,
But when I felt the familiar touch of your violating eyes I pushed back, refusing you entry,
And when you finally accepted your defeat, realized you’d never again ensnare me with
deceit,
You decided to be decent, offering as an apology an unconvincing “oops.”

So please, don't say anything,
Because I've already given up.
You’ve made it abundantly clear how little you care,
And after the years that you’ve had me ensnared.
Don’t you dare credit yourself for the confidence I found
You spent far too much time putting me down, telling me I was nothing without you.
But uncovering your lies has opened my eyes to see that all along it was the other way
around.

So say something, I dare you.
