To Lie To The Self

Sometimes the whispers are all it takes

To lie to myself and twist my heart

It happens like clockwork, I think

I believe I know what is happening

I am confident in myself

Yet then a whisper

It creeps into my head

Telling me about my faults

Taking my mind into a dive

A sharp, tragic spiral

It hurts, I think

That cursed voice

That tells me off

That hurts me

Because that voice

That cursed thing I hear

That voice is mine, I think

Because I lie to myself

Over and over

Day in and day out

I lie to myself with a whisper

And with the belief that it isn't me

I can try to play it off

But in the end, that voice is me

Isn't it?
