The Lie of Today

We sit all day,

We lie down all night.

We eat,

Then we sleep,

Then we work,

Then we cry.

Where is the hope,

In that long lived lie,

That our lives means something.

That our work counts.

All I see are debts and deadlines, and demands for more cash.

All I want is to be free,

And gain knowledge,

And breathe.

Is that too much to ask?
