Lies

I lied.

I lied when I told you I loved you.

I lied when I told you I would be with you.

And when I told you I saw a future with you…

I lied then too.

I didn't know it then… But I was lying.

My feelings for you were real, alive, and I couldn't escape it.

Being with you everything felt right but away from you, I knew I deserved better.

There was something more out there for me.

I was keeping you from the person you were meant to be with…

And I was doing the same thing to myself.

I just didn't want to let go, I wanted to try.

Yet it still wasn’t fair for you and it wasn't enough for me.

Deep down it felt wrong… Like we would never work.

We see life through a different light.

You want things now, I want things with time.

I think far into the future, you think within the next hour or day.

You jump into things in an instant, I jump in after I've analyzed.

I'm white; you're black.

Where you saw darkness I could only see light.

We live in two different worlds that orbit the same way.

In the same life, walking down different roads.

You and I, we're on two different levels. We should've known that from the start.

The things you've experienced, I would never even think about doing.

My goals in life, you'd never go in that deep.

We should've known.

I could've stopped it but I didn't.

I wouldn't feel this burden on my chest if I would've spoken truth sooner.

You knew my goals but failed to tell me you didn't want the same.

You should've told me sooner, I wouldn’t feel so broken.

I lied.

I lied when I told you I loved you even though I cared.

I lied when I told you I would be with you even though I wanted to so bad.

And I lied when I told you I saw a future with you even though I would've tried.

It's true, I lied without knowing.

But so did you and the difference is…

You knew.
