The Lies Our Parents Told Us

Facades, Gullibility, and Hope A bright red suit, heavy black boots, and a long white beard Good behavior, wishful thinking, and childhood cheer Deceit packaged nicely laying under the rotting pine, with a big green bow The lies our parents told us. Deception, Optimism, and Goals A space cowboy, a ninja turtle, and a princess ballerina Ideas for the future, creativity, and wild imaginations False hope suffocating like water filling the lungs of an innocent The lies our parents told us. White lies, Integrity, and Character Self love, Honesty, and Compassion The beauty inside, sparing their feelings, and feeling guilty later on Beauty shamed by society for the physical characteristics like a brand on an unsuspecting calf The lies our parents told us. Promises, Life, and Heartbreak Broken Pledges, inevitable ends, and unimaginable pain Oaths of forever are torn apart like the same big green bows from our childhood. The lies our parents told us.
