Lies/Love
It starts with your lips
Those damn lips, damn words that
you let slip out, did you think about the pain?
Shards of glass coated in sweet,
sweet honey
You said it, "I Love You."
As you held my wrist behind my
back and twisted,
did you mean it when you said I
deserved happiness?
Or was that just another trick,
catch me and never let me go
Did you mean to make me feel like
shit, every time you pressed your
lips into mine, it's supposed to be
beautiful..love, that's what my mother taught me,
what my father always wished for me
And I became paper, wrinkled and
tattered, convinced that this three
word phrase held false testimony
Until the day I left, broke the chain
and grabbed my coat, ran so far away
In my solitude of silence and pain I found someone knew,
scared to let him in, so used to being lied to
But he changed that for me, he waited to say it
Weeks drifting by, even the time I was tipsy and so used to
throwing it around, tried to say it, finger against my cheek, moved it to stop
my mouth from spilling,
"Don't say it yet, save it," he said
He let me keep it safe, let me save my dignity and worth
with his actions he proved it,
convinced me without even having to move his tongue
That night in our hotel room, tangled in sheets, pale blue
moonlight sneaking in through the shades
I looked into his eyes, so soft, I knew them,
wasn't scared to hear these words
You preyed the barbed wire from my heart,
and wrapped it in cotton
Told me he loved me,
and meant it.
