This Life
They say it’s all in the eyes,
They make it hard to say good-bye.
After all that time spent together,
He made me want it forever.
He has those hazel eyes,
And soft lips that spoke lies.
His beard perfectly trimmed,
And the rare tears in his eyes that brimmed.
He didn’t mean to be so blunt,
But he knew I didn’t like him to stunt.
He could read me like a book,
All he had to do was look.
He knows it’s hard for me to watch him go,
I know it pains him to see my tears flow.
If only this was a different life.
It wouldn’t be a secret and I could be his wife.
But I know better than anybody else,
You can’t make somebody be some one else.
He is who he is, strong like the wind,
And it makes sense with this life he’s lived.
