Life

Dear Life,

You give me tiresome days of mess and disorder.

Pure chaos.

People sing in the rain,

dance in the streets,

run red lights,

jump off cliffs,

juggle flaming torches,

and for the most part, it really doesn’t make sense.

It is out of our hands.

Perhaps towering, monumental waves known only as ‘Harvey’ wash away your entire life’s work,

leaving you drowning in rocking currents devoid of color among your lost potential.

Maybe, just maybe, your daughter forgets her favorite shabby purple teddy bear on the way to the airport,

you double back to retrieve it, missing your flight to New York City by mere seconds on the 11th of September, 2001.

Consider the dogs chasing the cats in the streets,

the kids playing tag a little too far from the fence,

the wars escalating from blazing catapults to atomic bombs,

and it is hard to envision a life on Earth without disorder.

Yet every once in awhile, the tides turn

and we find ourselves facing brief moments of peaceful, stagnant waters before we return to the harsh seas.

If only for a second, everything is right.

A day after losing your childhood dog to the test of time, you look up at 11:28AM.

A suspiciously Spot-shaped cloud catches your attention before the gray gloom takes the shape of an elderly man hula-hooping,

you know that Spot is resting now.

The kindergarteners are somehow simultaneously asleep during nap time;

soft snores ring out, mingling midair with soothing tunes.

The man that persuades you down from the bridge at midnight proposes 2 years later with crystalline drops shooting down his cheeks.

A perforated edge of a movie ticket tears cleanly.

And, hopefully one of the most satisfying moments of them all, clutching that diploma tight in your hands until your knuckles are chalky white and little moons are inked into your skin

nobody can take this away from you.

But those are split seconds.

Temporary.

We hope for the day to come when seconds build upon each other, and there is order for longer than a wink.

Perhaps the disorder and rambunctiousness help you realize the values you hold most sacred.

The unceasing whirlwinds around you illuminate the path you wish to take.

Stampedes of bellowing beasts hinder your thoughts until a horn is blown and the mess comes to a standstill.

Gradually, you may discover the order in your daily life despite the chaos surrounding you.

It might just be, that in seeking to find order in disorder, you have found yourself.

Life,

you're cryptic,

chaotic,

and unforgiving, but amidst the cacophony of seemingly random and mismatched notes

I hear a song well worth listening to.

From,

Anon
