Life

As he spoke the soft words it enchanted me.

Never knew the implication of words.

When spoken that for the first time made me feel so free.

Able to soar up so high you would think I was a bird.

Then reality came back to me and the video over.

Yet the lesson had been learned.

I had found something inside me as lucky as a four-leaf clover.

14 year old me wasn't the same girl who was unconcerned.

This new girl had awoken and became a woman.

A woman ready for the world after being inspired.

So I poured my heart out into the poem.

A poem that possessed my innermost thoughts.

I had thought for sure everyone would think it was the best until I was proven wrong.

There was a poem that my group had thought was the superb

A white girl had written about how the world could be a better place.

This crap had won over from what I said.

I talked about my struggles being black and Muslim in America.

Yet it wasn't good enough for my honors 8th-grade English class.

It's kind of ironic isn't it though.

My poem talked about the reality for me while the one that one was of a utopia.

Mine had passions while hers had hope.

There were emotions I had never said while hers had thoughts that could have been anyones.

Mine was real.

This then left me a thought of what is my reality.

The reality that wasn't felt thru the words that I had written.
