Life

Life is but a breath

A sharp intake of air

Filling your lungs for a second

Always leaving you aching with need for more

Wanting some relief

Something your body fights for

That is life

Life is but a clock

Ticking, shouting, screeching in your ear

A labyrinth of gears, slowly rusting

You never know when it’s going to stop

The sound sometimes silent -

Sometimes loud as ever talking from every direction

That is life

Life is but a mount of silence

An infinite blankness

Stretching over hills

Climbing mountains

Forming to every curve

Lying on plains of every word unspoken

That is life

Life is but a book

Unfinished

The beginning pages torn from the countless times read

While the ending pages are bare,

Their story untold

Memories written as you go

That is life

Life is but a step

One step in front of the other

One step back

Steps that lead to the world, your world

And with each you tell your story

As the world tells you it’s own

That is life

Oh what a beautiful, horrible thing life is
