Life After A Storm
friday, November 3rd at 3:15 pm was the last
moment i believed everything’s would be okay.
maybe it’s because I still don’t feel OK,
I thought I could rebuild my home,
relocate, remove myself from the lives of people
I saw out in the storm
The swirling hurricane of fire
Wiping away the potential memories that could’ve been made
laughs, school dances, birthday parties, PTA luncheons
I could be missing it all
Instead, on an outskirt of town,
just 45 minutes away from where wildfires,
Started by the spark of our conversation,
Burned down homes I had built from scratch.
They turned to white hot piles of yesterday’s news
With no one but you and I left to cry for
their former glory. with nothing but hope that one day
new houses will be built.
But much too afraid to pick up the hammer and nail salt
Something wrong with this poem?
