Life of Ashes
Life of Ashes
The dismal remains
Of a once
Magnificent fire
That had at a time
Glowed and crackled and sparked
That had radiated with joy and warmth
All that’s left now
Are its ashes- paper thin pieces
A whisper of what used to be
And blow away with
Each cutting breeze
When the last of the ashes begin to drift away
A new spark is brought
From the ashes he is born
And the ashes will be his home
Until he finds-when he finds
A way to grow into
His own bonfire
Luminous
Fiery
Tongues of flame that will
Reach and reach
Never swaying in the faces of time
Hatred
Cruelty
Oppression
But for now he waits
Patiently
In his life of ashes
Of what could’ve been
What should’ve been
Of what used to be
Knowing
He’ll be greater than
His life of ashes
