Life Cycle

Life is full of twists and turns,

Building a bridge that instantly burns.

Our hearts, full of hope, float in the air,

Always shot down, caught unaware.

Believing we are first, we run the race,

But soon find out we took second place.

And although we pretend we will be okay,

Hemorrhaging, we bleed yet another day.

We believe all the silly words we were told,

Thinking we found treasure, we struck gold.

A heart turns to stone that it may last,

All that once was remains in the past.

No matter the pain that we endure,

We still find love to be the cure.

Surrounded by darkness we sing a new song,

Praying that this one will move us along.

Yet once more we long for that touch,

Of what we can’t have, loving too much.

And so the cycle begins again,

Of the hurt and hope buried deep within.
