Life Experince of Student Ambassader
I’m standing on people's ashes
Scared and shivering with nothing but a blank mind
Listening to words that paint a devastating image in my head
Walking down the wooden stairs surrounded by filthy brick walls
I wait where men and women were chained in a room of death
Where innocent infants were thrown into the air like a game of skeet
On all sides of me are wooden beds
Gas-fire chambers
Where families were slaughtered
Dust scattered over my shoes
I become speechless.
At the age of 14
Experiencing moments as a student ambassador
An opportunity that I’m grateful for
This day I came to understand
That every victim went through fear
Stages of grief
Every person
Victim or not
Has their own feeling that every person should respect
Lying there looking at the ceiling
Tears running down my face
no one had any idea
“what it feels like to feel alone, feel dead, feel unheard”
as the victims did
Neither did I
The best we can do is try to imagine
and even then we’ll come up short
