Life is a funny thing.
Life is a funny thing
How can we stand for a flag
Never made for us
A nation built on our back,
The majestic red bled from our souls
You call us thugs
But all we know is poverty
Opportunities for you not me
You say “You people” with distaste
A sour expression
Looking to us as waste
The “American Dream”
Yes!
A land of great pleasure,
the Promised Land,
Riches beyond riches,
“Equality” amongst all,
And a life of prosperity.
No…
Cold knives behind backs
Spiteful bullets of law flying
Children Crying
Mothers weeping
Graves dug 50 feet deep
Red stained streets
Storms of tears,
Cold as ice
Tornadoes of anger,
Fierce like Mike
Striking lighting,
The sentence of life
Earthquakes approaching,
The marching of millions
Clouds of thunder,
A cry of pain
Living in a constant whirlwind
Life is a funny thing
A poison,
Dripping,
Spreading,
Aching to spread
An illusion of inclusion
Life is not for me
I’m drowning
Doubting
My heart is pounding!
Who am I meant to be?
Life is a funny thing
A war of sanity
Turning into calamity
Life is a funny thing
You know a funny thing
How can we stand for a nation
not made for us?
