The Life I Cannot Live
Dragons can breathe fire
And soar through fluffy clouds,
With me upon their backs I ride
Where bullies are not allowed.
We fly up to the stars above
And once around the sun,
But my legs hurt from sitting
And now I long to run.
So we stop on the moon,
My dragon and I,
To run around and stretch our legs
Until again we fly.
We descend again on Earth,
Into a lush meadow
Where sheep come to cuddle
And raise me when I'm low.
Their wool is soft and comforting
So I rest upon it my head.
The illusion shatters now,
As I sit up in bed.
I rise from sleep
And dread the day
Because I know
What He will say.
I go to school to face my fear
And hope that I can stand,
Only to be pushed down again
By the meanest in the land.
I come home in the evening
With bruises and a limp,
And am greeted by my father
Who labels me a wimp.
After further hitting
And a new black eye as well,
I make my way to my room
And hope my eyes won't swell.
It's times like this when I think
How my life would have been changed
Had she not left me all alone
To face my father's rage.
I pick up my pen
And begin to write my deepest desires,
Because real life is mearly
A dream that backfired.
