A Life Lacking Joy

A cluttered mind weeps at the fragmented thoughts

that dance through the abyss of what once was creativity.

Any zeal for life extinguished, past passions naught

once cruelly exposed to the harsh grey light of reality.

The child that once laughed and danced in the rain

is but a figment of past imaginations, lost in a dark place.

When shown the immense capacity for humans' pain

who could ever recall joy's gentle embrace?

Screaming aflutter amongst unfinished tasks I struggle to abstain

from desiring the elusive pursuit of adventure.

Pleasure is an expensive commodity to attain

and I, in the midst of the tornado, am but a pauper.

The life you desire the future will hold

is the lie that relieves my tortured soul.
