Life in a Letter

A Letter to my Rapist,

This is the peace I long for.

One where you can’t hurt me anymore.

The bruises have long faded,

And I have come to the fact that,

You stole my innocence.

You used me to in place of your insecurities.

I loved you.

You were my best friend.

I know that it wasn’t my fault.

I want you to know that you matter.

I want you to know that these mistakes don’t define you.

I want you to know that I wish you the best.

I hope you learn from your mistakes.

I hope you are able to turn over a new leaf.

I hope that you reach all of those ambitious dreams you once told me about.

I hope you are happy.

You were a step in my journey.

And now,

I’ve been accepted into college to do my dream as ambitious as yours.

I’ve learned who I can trust.

I’ve learned that I am stronger than I give myself credit for.

That I don’t “need” anybody.

It wasn’t easy getting over you.

But now that I have,

I want to say,

I forgive you.
