Life Of A Rose

What hasn't poetry taught me

Poetry has taught me that I can grow

Poetry has taught me to use my skills and show

Most importantly poetry has taught me that I can persevere

Even though things might seem cloudy I can make it clear

The poem was “The Rose That Grew From Concrete”

When I first read it, it was like the words created a new world for me

The words helped me to grow past my concrete of life

I was the rose

And I was ready to grow feet and walk

Nobody cared but it was me not the rose that learned to breathe fresh air

Although short in sight the poem meant more to me

The poem showed me that I didn’t need to settle for a rose but instead grow a tree

All through this concrete we call life

It was hard for me to go through it all

At times I thought that my petals might fall

But through all those times of terror and fear

I was the one who learned to persevere

All because of a poem made by a man of magic

His death truly tragic

But in the end he helped my with his poems and words

Helped me grow as a tree to house birds

His poetry taught me how to be

What hasn’t poetry taught me
