Life without my family

It's 2 a.m., I have an exam.

My heart beats through my chest.

I'm in tears; can't get any rest.

I dial the number for Pam.

Mother's phone rings

someone answers, unfamilar.

I must have the wong number.

This usually brings comfort.

I had too much fun.

Now my money is gone.

I call grandpa for an extra dollar,

but once again things turn sour.

There's no one on the other line.

I'm all alone; I am not fine.

Where is my family?

They are always there to rescue me.

I do not think I can go on,

if all of them are truly gone.

This is my first poem published on the Power Poetry site. It is about my need for family to get through my college experience. Thank you for your feedback.
