Life is in Your Hands

So. You're finishing High School. You don't know what to do.

Suddenly, no more schedules,

no more assignments

no more guidance.

Suddenly, what you want to do

what I want to do

matters

Suddenly you can make your own choices

Suddenly you have to make your own choices

Suddenly you're afraid. I'm afraid.

It's overwhelming, this power, this responsibility, to one that has never tasted it before.

That feeling, experiencing that, that feeling of freedom, that feeling of choice

That made it real. I was an adult now. If I wanted to do something, I could do it. I could go to the pool, vote, get a job

I could get in an accident, mess up, doom my career or my future with the right misstep

I could fly, but I could fall. What my future holds now is up to me. Every second of everyday, is defined by what I put into motion now.

From now on I am responsible for my future, my triumphs and my downfalls. I can find joy and happiness just as I can find despair.

And I know that I am free.
