Lifeline

I've had many friends over the years and i make more with each passing day. They come, they go and I just shrug. I had a best friend once but that didn't last like I thought it would. The funny thing is that we swore we'd always stay friends, best friends. We pinky promised even crossed our hearts and hoped to die ,but promises can't come true if a hand has its fingers crossed behind a back, out of sight. I wanted to bound them, keep them close to me. I thought I held them dear and them me but then we broke off and I concluded with the thought that yeah I guess best friends dont exist and then I thought more about the term 'friend'-someome who stands by you and cares for you-because it seemed like mine were fading. But then I met you and you were there since the beginning with the label 'friend' this whole time and soon you were bumped up to best friend. A true best friend not just some title to just throw out there. And I thought, I thought this time this whole best friend thing might work out. We were stuck together like glue and you even said i was like a sister to you and I was so happy cause noones ever told me that. But then I took an opportunity and you didn't and we were torn apart. Through our separation you struggled more and you missed me dearly, you'd just lost a close part of yourself. And I missed you too I just thought we'd have more chances to see each other. like I was never gone but I see that it was all wishful thinking. You learned to live without me and you made new friends even gained more crushes. I mean sure we kept in touch talking about our days but I wonder when it started to slow. We were stuck together like glue until I separated us. You were forced to move on without me and now im here lost because I dont know what to do anymore. You were my connection as well as a life line. And now i'm left bleeding out in the water and these sharks of loneliness are circling me,closing in. I never thought my lifeline would ever leave me. Thought it'd stay forever. Sure, you're still around but you're fading going in and out like a monotor in a hospital. Going beep...beep...beep until we reach a flatline. You're the only person who'd I'd really call a best friend and it hurts so much to see you just ...fade away.
