Lifeline of Hope

What I cannot live without

Do I dare even say?

Would no one agree

I do believe they may.

Most people may say

Their money, phone, or car.

So stuck on the material things

Will they really get you so far?

The logical may say

"You cannot live without air!”

Well I agree that’s the case

But that’s not being fair.

Another person may say

“Well I can’t live without food!”

Well I’d say that you’re right

That is absolutely true.

And I understand but let’s be real

There are things that are essential.

But could you imagine if we could?

Could you imagine the potential?

There would be no limits

We would be independent.

We could travel the world

And forever explore it.

But if there is one thing for sure

That I cannot live without.

It would always be hope

That’s what it has always been about.

So let me explain

So that you may understand why.

Why I can’t live without hope

For if I lost it, I’d probably die.

For without it, I am lost,

With no thoughts of what’s to come.

Just the fear that lingers

My mind as a silent hum.

Just imagine what life would be like

With nothing but anxiety and worry

Always wondering what’s next

Our future would be blurry

A family member at the hospital

No money to pay the bills

Your father in jail

Your mom popping pills

Your car is broken down

And your tuition is over due.

Your grades are plummeting

Not knowing what to pursue.

Your work is overworking you

So you can’t focus on school.

Your step mom harassing you

About moving out soon.

When you finally get time,

To study for your class,

You fall asleep with your books on you

Asking your dreams for a free pass.

You see your friends

And wonder how they do it

And they tell you mommy and daddy paid for everything

They didn’t pay for it.

Family drama through the roof

You try to help, while trying to avoid.

You watch as all relationships,

Are quietly destroyed.

So life isn’t fair

And this will always be true.

But as long as I have hope,

I will always get through.
