Life's Sweetest Simplicity

A little boy, about yeigh high, sits by himself, video games by his side.

Isolated in his own home...

Memorizes cheat codes to not feel so alone.

He catches them all and ends the poor princess's strife

but there's no restart button on his own life.

He beats every game and conquers the boss

but a decade goes by and he feels like he lost.

The young boy grew up...

He balanced it all.

High GPA., tuition paid, but he still feels as small.

So when he goes home

from another hard day

he'll plug in the console...

Oh, the games he will play.

A man now who feels unnoticed ...

it's as if no one cares.

Finds contentment in his gaming

someday soon he'll become aware...

There's someone out there

sharing in his strife.

She's willing to comfort him.

To start a new life.

But when did it start?

She can remember the day.

Never isolated...

only feeling that way.

Surrounded by people who truly care.

Always getting in the way wondering...why was she there?

Everything was perfect.

Honestly, she had it all.

But it was that perfection that made her feel so small.

She could see the beauty in every single soul

but to look in the mirror...

well, that took it's toll.

She couldn't handle a single critique.

Perhaps the voice in her head is what made her so weak.

And just when things would start to look up

another blow to beheld... now her family was stuck.

A situation meant to perpetually escape.

She took comfort in the control of her fate.

Calories and grades and a vision in her eye.

Balancing both until perfection...

Loved ones saw how hard she tried.

So life is a struggle and they both had to try

to find a silver lining in the "cloudiest" of skies.

What once was the comfort he felt from a game

turned into her company

it was one and the same.

And the control that consumed her

became his embrace.

So the love that he offered filled the once empty space.

They both provided the greatest simplicity in life...

The comfort that can console everyone's strife.
