A Lifetime

A life at times

Can seem so long

When days are bad

And things go wrong

But other times

It goes quite fast

The special days

That never last

How hard it is

To make life count

It's hard enough

To keep account

Of all the busyness of life

(Which never goes away, you'll find)

How then should we spend our days?

Investing body, soul, and mind?

For work and school and sport and play

Will leave with age or time or loss

And drink and drug and smile and sob

Will never fill our empty thoughts

I've found that though all else will fade

And things of earth will slip away

God has much more for us in store

When we remember we won't stay

Down here on earth where trouble reigns.

So then, take heart! Your Lord has come

Your days no longer lost

Give Him your all, no time to waste

We've counted up the cost.
