The Light

Walking in the dark shadowy faces smile maliciously

Shrouded in darkness a light pierces through

Catching my attention just for a moment

Stirring me from a slumber so nice

I groggily peer forward as the road branches into three paths

Each with its own light; one dim, one bright, one black as night

The figure on the dim path approaches me

Offers me a peach to take the path as long as I stay quiet

But such a word diet is unacceptable in my eye so I decline

In my mind while my hand grabbed the peach

Fingers rolling over it so smooth enticing me luscious

Mouth watering I take a few bites and look down the dim path

I saw stagnant waters with peaches floating out of my reach

Really seemed like a breach of contract so my hand let go

And my mouth spit the peach out so disrespectful

It was only fair that I let the figure take a few bites of my heart

Why I felt chewed up so I took my piece of heart to the bright path

Thinking this decision would last as a shadowy figure

Seemingly overwhelmed by the light approached me with a piece of heart

Chewed up like mine but had distinguished lines of battles fought

I held up my heart like it was purple a nearly fallen hero in war

Never showed it the score that my heart was tore by the teeth

I invited in with my greed unknowingly planted the seed

The figure asked me how do I know that it won’t lead me down the dark path?

Because an insatiable wrath created by this torn heart guarantees nothing

And can promise you anything you want to hear

I said why would that I fear

I’ve made it clear that I want to walk into the light so no more would I see

My image in the dirt stained mirror instead I will bask in the warmth

I walked towards the light blinded listening for the voice of the figure

I finally hear a reply it was a goodbye as the dim and bright path disappeared

Leaving the pitch black path….I called out expecting a figure to appear

But the only thing that returned was an echo devastating to the ear

I walk into the darkness with my torn up heart devastated not by the figures

But a possibility to lay in the light with a heart like mine even if torn....and Then I see a light.
