The Light
In the darkness it lays.
I feel the cold consume me-
It lays on me like a blanket
Comforting me,
Lying to me,
Promising me pretty lies
I am nothing but the girl in the dark
I am afraid
Do I dare open my eyes?
Who would welcome me in a world that seems to be against me?
My eyes open
I welcome the cold harsh darkness into my view
I see no difference of when I hid behind the comfort of my eyelids
I blink, blink, blink.
My eyes adjust like a camera focusing on the new light
Hope.
Could this be my only escape?
I’m held by the shakes that are my reality
But the light
The light feels warm, loving, and caring
I break these shakes like a mad man
Pulling and tugging fighting for my escape
I run
Run, run, run
Gasping for air
Its close, I see it, feel it, hear. It
The warm vibrations of the light call for me
I stop.
My hopes, my dream lay in front of me
But the shakes still hang from my arms
I grab the light
The light consumes me taking off my cold blanket
I see.
No need to blink.
Its just me
I am my own shackles
I am that light
I am my own worst enemy
My best hope for escape
I am the light
