The Light
The darkened days seemed here to stay,
And I, their victim, made no effort to change.
It all appeared hopeless,
So what's the point to try?
My smile was gone, laughter never heard,
And dreams almost completely erased away.
I was ready to cut my time short,
It was too painful to go on.
People say it's better to be hurt,
Than feel nothing at all.
But then a cloud began to glow,
Just enough for me to ask 'what if.'
Like pulling back the curtains after a stormy night I saw,
The most beautiful light I ever layed eyes on.
It shown from above,
Like a light from heaven reaching out to me.
I began to step toward it,
Yet careful to hide my hope,
In fear it would once again dwindle away.
But this light didn't fade,
No the closer I got, the brighter it became.
When I reached the center, it covered every part of me,
That everything was lit and hide I did not.
I embraced the spotlight,
For as long as I was in the bright,
The darkness could persist no more.
I found my home,
The place I belong.
The light, the light,
O the welcoming light,
For as long as you shine around,
The dark could cover never more.
