Light

Started as a seedling,
so small and insecure.
Nurtured, protected, and sheltered,
but always wanting more.
Reaching, growing, stretching,
towards the golden light.
Determined to reach it,
you must, they say
before the coming of the night.
Then comes the storm,
the golden light starts to fade.
you begin to worry;
will there be a brighter day?
Your leaves slump,
leaving a shadow of who you are.
Unsure of what to do, you wilt over in defeat;
But you have come so far.
Drops begin to fall,
from the clouds way up high,
making you stand tall;
reaching, stretching, yearning,
towards the leaking sky.
Then comes the light,
peeking out behind the clouds,
warming your soil once again,
it was just waiting to be found.
