It's come around to Christmastime again;
A time when lights adorn the happy home,
When life and love are right inside our hands,
And laughter lets up know we're not alone.
The sparkling snow that falls upon the Earth
Has joy enough to make the cold worthwhile,
And all the money spent has little worth
Compared to seeing all the children smile.
The eve before the day, the world is still,
With dreams within each heart of pure delight;
The lighted star that stand upon the hill
Is all that I can dream about that night.

Yet ever since he died a year ago,
That star just doesn't seem to want to glow.

I wrote this poem (sonnet) as a assignment for my Intro to British Literature class last year. I loved that assignment, and I'm very proud of my sonnet. It shows the joy and the pain that comes with Christmas for my family now, ever since my grandfather died 2 and 1/2 years ago.

I love the format of sonnets- they flow so wonderfully, and the rhyme scheme helps to tell the story without being too complicated, and this is a prime example of how great a sonnet can turn out. Nice work!

I'm sorry you lost your grandfather, but your sonnet was deeply beautiful
