Light comes
In the silence of the night,
When darkness shrouds the light,
A woman lies awake,
Her heart in constant ache.
For she lives in an abusive marriage,
Where love has long been disparaged,
And pain is the only constant,
In a life that feels so distant.
Her husband's hands are like a vice,
Squeezing out her will and spice,
Leaving bruises on her skin,
And a soul that's worn thin.
She wonders how it came to this,
Her life so far from bliss,
And yet she stays, afraid to leave,
For fear of what she might receive.
For who would want a broken soul,
A woman who's lost control,
Of her own life, her own fate,
Trapped in a love that's filled with hate.
But she knows deep down inside,
That there's a way for her to thrive,
To break the chains that bind her tight,
And escape into the light.
So she gathers up her strength,
And takes a step, no longer at length,
Towards a life that's free from pain,
And a love that's worth her gain.
For she knows that she deserves,
A life that's filled with love and verve,
And though the road is long and hard,
She'll fight for it with every card.
And someday soon, she'll find the way,
To break free from the abusive fray,
And live a life that's filled with light,
Free from the darkness of her plight.
And it's not long before she sees it
As bright as light and as clear as day
And her smile reappears
Broken but there nonetheless
