a light in the dark

I once lived in the dark

ashamed of my brokenness

my grief

my addiction

my depression

my pain

my sin

I once lived in complete darkness

isolation built its walls higher and higher around me

while my spirit fell lower and lower

until I hit rock bottom

from the pit of desperation

at the point of desperation

I cried out to the Lord

in my pain and confusion I had become blind to the light of the world

I didn't see the Almighty God

who breaks the chains that bound me up as a slave to my own sin

the living water washing over my parched lips

the father who gives good gifts to his children

the friend you can go to in the middle of the night

he is the light of the world

bringing life

hope

healing

forgiveness

and light

to my darkness

I am the light of the world

whoever follows me

will never walk in darkness

but will have the light that leads to life
