Light For A Dream
Success feels like grasping for a dream when you’re around me
Always telling me who and what I can or cannot be
I’ve had a goal for myself ever since I was in the womb
“Hush now, that’s not good enough”, and you lay it in the tomb
Sent into a spiral of depression and despair
All the things I wanted to say but you’re not really there
Your tape of lies plays over and over in my head
Trying to run away but over shadowed by dread
A small ray of light eventually shone through
Showing me the way and what I must do
Taking my hand and guiding it towards the light beam
Finally, I’ve touched the ladder and now it feels like more than just a dream
Falling into the pit and reaching the end
Surviving with just a broken arm to mend
It may slow the climb but I’ll never stop
Because if I let go, there’s no guarantee of surviving the drop
So I’ll keep fighting, keep pushing till my goal is met
At the top of the ladder, I become a vet
